أعلن موقع اليوتويب عن زيادة في مدة الفلم المسموح رفعها في الموقع , حيث اصبحت المدة المسموحة للفلم تصل الى 15 دقيقه , وكانت مدة الفلم او المقطع المسموح بها بالسابق تصل الى 10 دقائق , ويمكن تجاوز هذه المدة المحدودة ان كان المستخدم او الناشر في الموقع يملك قناة خاصة به وبموافقة من قوقل نفسها ( على سبيل المثال قناة زميلي محمد الرحيلي في اليوتويب يستطيع من خلالها رفع مقاطع تتعدى 15 دقيقه ) ,وبهذه المناسبة اقام موقع اليوتويب مسابقة لأفضل مقطع فيديو مدته 15 دقيقه , وسيكون المقطع الفائز في واجهة الموقع لمدة معينة , وللمشاركة في هذه المسابقة يجب على المستخدم وضع وسم على الفيديو يحمل عبارة yt15minutes.
بالاضافة لذلك تم اطلاق نظام Content ID وهو نظام لحماية حقوق النشر والتأليف في الموقع , فمن خلال هذا النظام سيتوفر للناشرين ادوات تمكنهم من التحكم بالمواد المنشورة في الموقع , وهذا النظام سيساعد شركات الافلام والمسلسلات و القنوات التلفزيونه من تسهيل كشف اي مواد خاص بها منشوره في الموقع من دون أذن منها.
